Boyd Amputation in Leprosy Patients

Abstract
In thirteen leprosy patients who had had intractable deformed ulcerated forefeet and midfeet, Boyd amputations were performed and they were followed at least for one year.
The results in two patients were not satisfactory due to delayed union with pressure sore or union in the unstable position, but the remaining eleven patients were satisfactorily functional and remained pain free.
Taking good care of the stump and the prosthesis is as important as proper surgical technique if the amputation is to be s ccessful in insensitive feet of the leprosy patients.
